Every May, we get the chance to slow down and recognize the women who have poured so much love, energy, and care into others. Mothers, grandmothers, aunties, chosen moms, soon-to-be moms — all the people who hold us together, often quietly and without fanfare.
This year feels especially tender. Next week, we’ll be attending a joint baby shower for three of our close friends. Another welcomed her baby just last month. And we have even more little ones on the way. It’s a beautiful season of new beginnings — and a powerful reminder of the emotional, physical, and spiritual strength it takes to nurture life.
In that spirit, we’ve been thinking about what it really means to care for mothers — not just celebrate them for one day, but show up with the kind of support that fills their cup in return. And we believe that nourishment — true nourishment — is a beautiful place to start.
Why Inflammation Matters — Especially for Moms
Motherhood, in all its forms, often means being everything to everyone. The invisible labor. The late nights. The constant multitasking. The emotional load. Over time, that kind of strain can quietly take a toll — especially on the body.
Chronic inflammation, often sparked by stress, sleep deprivation, or nutrient-poor diets, is increasingly linked to fatigue, joint pain, digestive issues, mental fog, and even long-term disease. It can creep in without warning and linger without obvious signs — especially when self-care is always at the bottom of the to-do list.
But food and lifestyle are powerful medicine. They offer a gentle, consistent path back to balance — one that doesn’t require perfection, just presence.
Foundations of an Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle
This isn't about rules or restrictions. It's about adding more of what supports healing and less of what causes harm.
🌿 Eat the Rainbow
Deep, vibrant colors in fruits and vegetables are packed with antioxidants that fight cellular stress. Think berries, greens, beets, and sweet potatoes.
🥑 Choose Whole Fats
Omega-3s from fatty fish and flaxseed, along with olive oil and avocado, are deeply anti-inflammatory and support brain and hormone health.
🍯 Cut Back on Refined Sugar & Ultra-Processed Foods
Try swapping white sugar for raw honey or dates, and reach for whole snacks like nuts or fruit instead of packaged treats.
🍚 Support Gut Health with Fiber
Whole grains and legumes — like quinoa, lentils, and chickpeas — feed your microbiome, which plays a crucial role in regulating inflammation.
🌱 Cook with Herbs and Spices
Turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, garlic — these are small ingredients with big impact. They’re easy to add to everyday meals for both flavor and healing.

Beyond Food: Ways to Truly Support the Moms in Your Life
Nourishment isn’t just what we eat — it’s how we live, how we rest, how we feel supported.
Here are a few small ways to show love that go a long way:
💛 Start a Meal Train
One of the most helpful ways to support a new mom (or anyone going through a major life event) is organizing meals for the week–or gifting them Salt + Soil meal delivery ;). It’s not just about food — it’s about lifting the mental load.
🌞 Encourage Morning Light + Movement
A few minutes of gentle movement and sunlight each morning can help regulate cortisol and support better sleep.
💧 Gift a Hydration Reminder
A beautiful water bottle or herbal tea blend can be a nudge toward daily nourishment.
🛁 Build a Simple Self-Care Kit
Magnesium bath salts, a journal, a calming playlist — small things that say “you deserve rest.”
🌙 Support Better Sleep
Offer to help with bedtime routines, drop off a lavender sachet or soothing tea, or simply check in and remind her she’s not alone.
A Quiet Thanks
There’s something sacred about the ways mothers hold space for others. Their care often goes unseen, but it is never unfelt. This Mother's Day — and every day — may we remember to feed those who feed us, to care for those who’ve carried us, and to uplift those who give so much of themselves to the world.
May our offerings be simple, loving, and full of nourishment — for body, mind, and spirit.
