What Is Earth Month? Why It Matters More Than Ever

What Is Earth Month? Why It Matters More Than Ever

Apr 01, 2025

Every April, the world comes together to celebrate Earth Month—a time for reflection, education, and most importantly, action to protect our planet. It’s an extension of Earth Day (April 22), but instead of limiting awareness to just one day, Earth Month encourages a lasting commitment to sustainability, climate action, and environmental justice.

At Salt and Soil, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a core part of who we are. From our organic meal delivery to our compostable packaging and reforestation efforts, we believe that small businesses like ours can spark big change in our community. 🌱

The History of Earth Month

The movement started with Earth Day in 1970, when millions of people protested against environmental destruction, leading to historic policy changes like:

  • The Clean Air Act – Regulating air pollution for healthier communities.
  • The Clean Water Act – Protecting our rivers, lakes, and oceans.
  • The Endangered Species Act – Safeguarding wildlife and biodiversity.

As awareness grew, Earth Day expanded into Earth Month, providing more time to discuss environmental challenges, advocate for change, and implement sustainable solutions at every level—from individuals to governments.

Why Earth Month Matters More Than Ever

Today, the urgency of climate action is greater than ever. Rising global temperatures, deforestation, and pollution threaten not just ecosystems but also our food, health, and future generations. Some of the biggest challenges we face include:

Climate Change – Increasing temperatures fuel wildfires, hurricanes, and droughts, making extreme weather the new normal.
Plastic Pollution – Millions of tons of plastic enter our oceans every year, killing marine life and polluting our waterways.
Deforestation – We lose millions of acres of forests annually, reducing the planet’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide.

The good news? We can all take action. Every small, conscious decision adds up to a global impact.

How You Can Make a Difference

Fighting climate change isn’t just for governments or big corporations—it starts with everyday choices:

Support Local & Sustainable Businesses – Shopping locally reduces carbon footprints while supporting eco-conscious brands (like us!).

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Simple swaps like reusable bags, water bottles, and composting can drastically minimize waste.

Eat More Plant-Based Meals – Cutting back on meat consumption lowers greenhouse gas emissions and supports sustainable agriculture.

Conserve Energy & Water – Turning off lights, unplugging electronics, and reducing water waste all contribute to a healthier planet.

How Salt and Soil Is Taking Action

At Salt and Soil, we believe that sustainability isn’t just about talking—it’s about doing. Here’s how we’re making an impact:

Compostable Packaging & Organic Meal Delivery

We use 100% compostable packaging to ensure that our meals nourish both you and the planet—without contributing to landfill waste. Our organic, locally sourced ingredients support sustainable farming practices and reduce the environmental footprint of food production.

One Tree Planted Partnership – Nearly 400 Trees & Counting!

We’ve partnered with One Tree Planted to plant one tree for every order we receive. Trees are essential for:

  • Carbon Sequestration – Absorbing CO₂ and reducing the greenhouse effect.
  • Restoring Ecosystems – Rebuilding natural habitats for wildlife.
  • Improving Air & Water Quality – Filtering pollutants and providing oxygen.

We’re proud to say that we’ve nearly planted 400 trees, but we’re just getting started. Our hope is that by leading with action, we can inspire others—our customers, our community, and even larger businesses—to prioritize sustainability.
