The Fourth Trimester

The hardest weeks to cook are the weeks your body needs most.

Recovery is physical work. Sleep comes in pieces, feeding runs around the clock, and the meal that would help most is the one nobody has the hands for. Most families end up on door dash, takeout, and whatever is fastest.

A note from our team

Postpartum care starts with making nourishing food easier to reach, especially when rest and recovery need to come first.

Why Salt + Soil

You have read about the protein, the fiber, the Mediterranean plate. The hard part is rebuilding how you eat, week after week.

Built for recovery

Why Mediterranean, for the fourth trimester?

Warming & easy to digest

The postpartum body is doing intense repair work — healing tissue, rebuilding blood volume, recalibrating hormones. Cold, raw, or heavy foods ask more of a system that's already working overtime. We lean toward gentle preparations that are simple for the body to process, so more energy goes toward recovery.

Nutrient replenishment

Birth draws down iron, zinc, and other nutrients your body worked hard to build. Rebuilding isn't about eating more — it's about eating specifically: iron- and protein-rich proteins, healthy fats, and real, whole ingredients that support repair rather than add to inflammation.

One less thing to think about

Meals arrive cooked, portioned, and labeled with reheating instructions. Open the fridge, pick a container, eat in ten minutes. No planning, no shopping, no cleanup, and no decision to make at 6pm with a baby on you.

This is the most personal thing we do.

Client story

I am working through an obnoxious host of food restrictions, and that plus our normal preferences, had me worried. But it gave Chef Brooke no trouble at all. She has created delicious meals for us, and our 2.5 year old daughter also loves them.

Gio and Brooke — founders of Salt + Soil organic meal delivery San Diego

Our Story

Where Salt and Soil began.

Brooke found the same truth from a different direction. Years as a vegan had left her health declining, and the turning point came when she stopped following rules she'd been handed and started cooking for her own body instead — clean animal protein back on the plate alongside real vegetables. Her energy came back. So did her clarity.

That lesson never left her. Today, Brooke finds the same joy cooking for the new moms in our lives — women navigating one of the most demanding seasons of their lives with less time, less sleep, and a body that needs more than it's getting. The feedback we hear most is that our meals arrive at the moment they're needed most, and give new mothers the energy to actually show up for the weeks ahead.

Whatever season takes cooking off your plate — a newborn, a recovery, a week that swallows everything — someone should still be feeding your family food that helps, not just food that's fast.

"Food is Medicine" is not marketing for us. Every personal plan we build carries that same commitment.
